The Market There are currently 27 titles in the weekly market, with an aggressive launch phase increasing the number of titles competing in the sector by an incredible 53% since 2002. The increase in titles has been exclusively in two of the four weekly sectors; celebrity and real-life, with no change in either the classics or mature sectors since the launch of Best in 1988 and the close of Woman's Realm in 2001 respectively. 2006 has also seen the introduction of First and In the know the first weekly news magazines for women, and already this year 2007 Look, a weekly fashion magazine. Number of readers There are currently over 9 million women reading weekly magazines every week, which equates to 36% of the UK female population. In a one-month period, women's weekly titles reach 11.9 million women (or 48%). Over the course of one year, 18.1 million women (73%) will read a women's weekly magazine. The real life titles reach 14% of women each week, the celebrity titles 19% while the Classic weeklies and Mature weeklies reach 9% and 6% each respectively.

Every month over 41.6 million weekly magazines are sold, compared to 11.4 women's monthly titles in the same period. Over the past decade, sales of the women's weekly market have grown 29%, to over nine million copies each week.
Sales by Sector Whilst there is a decline in the mature and classic market, total sales have increased across the market as a whole, owing to the phenomenal growth from the real life and celebrity markets.
